{"id":9763,"date":"2012-09-27T16:20:37","date_gmt":"2012-09-27T21:20:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bemidjistate.edu\/bsutoday\/?p=9763"},"modified":"2021-11-01T15:19:36","modified_gmt":"2021-11-01T20:19:36","slug":"lecture-hcls-shafer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/news\/2012\/09\/27\/lecture-hcls-shafer\/","title":{"rendered":"Schafer to deliver Oct. 11 Honors Council Lecture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. R&aacute;chele Schafer, assistant professor of professional education at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, will deliver an Oct. 11 Honors Council Lecture on special education and neurology.<\/p>\n<p>Shafer&rsquo;s presentation, &ldquo;Assisting Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders with Interpersonal Communication,&rdquo; will be held at 7 p.m. in Hagg Sauer 112 on the Bemidji State campus. Honors Council Lectures are open to the public free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>The lecture will explore autism spectrum disorders and examine her creation of an algorithm to help individuals communicate when struggling with communication issues caused by neurological differences.<\/p>\n<p>Schafer has a doctorate in special education, specializing in autism spectrum disorders, from Texas Tech University. She has spoken about autism on national and international stages.<\/p>\n<p>The Honors Council Lecture Series is hosted by the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Honors Council. The council is the advisory group to the honors program comprised of 12 faculty members from each of the University&rsquo;s colleges.
