  {"id":9613,"date":"2012-09-12T16:31:45","date_gmt":"2012-09-12T21:31:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bemidjistate.edu\/bsutoday\/?p=9613"},"modified":"2021-11-01T15:20:18","modified_gmt":"2021-11-01T20:20:18","slug":"lecture-honors-lawrence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/news\/2012\/09\/12\/lecture-honors-lawrence\/","title":{"rendered":"Lawrence to deliver Sept. 17 Honors Council Lecture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Mark Lawrence, professor of geography at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ, will deliver an Honors Council Lecture on natural resource management in Kenya on Sept. 17.<\/p>\n<p>Lawrence&rsquo;s presentation, &ldquo;The Bamboo of Kilui and the Figs of Kwa Muthita: Natural Resource Management in Liminal Landscapes,&rdquo; will be held at 7 p.m. in Hagg Sauer 112 on the Bemidji State campus. Honors Council Lectures are open to the public free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>The lecture will examine the natural resource management in liminal landscapes and the relationship between the Akamba culture in Kenya and the &ldquo;political ecology of capitalist industrialization of agriculture&rdquo; within the country.<\/p>\n<p>Lawrence teaches geography at Bemidji State. He has assisted community-planning efforts of environmental scientists and has worked with the Foundation Agency for Rural Development of Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>The Honors Council Lecture Series is hosted by the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Honors Council. The council is the advisory group to the honors program comprised of 12 faculty members from each of the University&rsquo;s colleges.
