BEMIDJI, Minn. (Oct. 28, 2011) — Former Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ President Dr. Jon Quistgaard signed the American Colleges and Universities Presidents’ Climate Commitment and committed Bemidji State to developing a strategic Climate Action Plan with specific mileposts for progress toward campus carbon neutrality.<\/p>\n
Dr. David Bahr, associate professor of physics, examined several actions for making progress toward the goal of carbon neutrality. In his presentation, Bahr will assess the effectiveness of campus-wide outdoor de-lamping, Sattgast Hall HVAC upgrades, and two campus applications of combined heat and power co-generation for reducing the University’s carbon footprint. The lecture will be held Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. in Hagg-Sauer 112 on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ campus. Admission is free.<\/p>\n
Bahr is an applied physicist with 3Suns Research LLC, specializing in solid-state energy conservations. Bahr earned his doctorate in engineering physics at the University of Virginia and has more than 30 years experience in alternative energy.<\/p>\n
The Honors Council Lecture Series is hosted by the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Honors Council. The council is the advisory group to the Honors Program comprised of 12 faculty members from all three of the University’s colleges. Student representatives also are elected to the council by their cohorts for one-year terms.<\/p>\n
