  {"id":1903,"date":"2009-03-26T14:04:09","date_gmt":"2009-03-26T20:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/bsutoday\/?p=1903"},"modified":"2021-11-01T15:45:46","modified_gmt":"2021-11-01T20:45:46","slug":"20090408-bbl-internship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/news\/2009\/03\/26\/20090408-bbl-internship\/","title":{"rendered":"April 8 Brown Bag luncheon to discuss the value of internships to businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>BEMIDJI, Minn. <\/strong>&mdash; Margie Giauque will discuss the value of internships for businesses during a noon Brown Bag Lunch program Wednesday, April 8 at the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Center for Research and Innovation.<\/p>\n<p> Attendees are encouraged to bring a bag lunch for the one-hour session, which is open free to the public at the center&rsquo;s off-campus facility located at 3801 Bemidji Avenue North.<br>\n Internships provide real-life working experiences for current students or graduating students from colleges and universities. Many academic areas at schools like Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ encourage their students to seek internships, which are required in some disciplines.<\/p>\n<p> &ldquo;The luncheon will introduce area employers to our online recruiting system,&rdquo; said Giauque, director of Career Services at Bemidji State. &ldquo;The hope is that they have internship opportunities and are trying to connect with students. Our goal is to make the process of connecting to our students much more accessible.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p> Giauque will elaborate on the benefits of sponsoring internships, including the opportunity to observe potential future employees, access new concepts and ideas, undertake special projects or short-term assignments, and lower training costs. She will also define what constitutes an internship, talk about the advantages of offering a paid internship for students, and show how to post an internship through her office.<\/p>\n<p> Prior to accepting her current position at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ in 1994, she served the Career Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato, as an assistant director for eight years and associate director for one year. She is a frequent presenter at state and regional professional meetings on such topics as career advisory boards, resume writing, career planning, and alumni career networking.<\/p>\n<p> She received her undergraduate degree in social work and a master&rsquo;s in counseling from the University of North Dakota, where she has also completed doctoral course work in educational leadership. <\/p>\n<p> The Brown Bag program is part of free training and informational presentations offered by the CRI each month.
