BEMIDJI, Minn.<\/strong> – A natural resources presentation entitled “Timber Appraisal Accuracy – Some Considerations That May Improve Your Timber Cruise” is scheduled for 3 to 4 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28 at the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Center for Research and Innovation, an off-campus facility located at 3801 Bemidji Avenue North.<\/p>\n

This Bemidji Area Natural Resources Continuing Education Consortium presentation is open to the public and free of charge.<\/p>\n

Presenting will be George Deegan<\/strong>, a forest mensurationist with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry, Grand Rapids. Deegan will discuss things to consider when planning a timber appraisal such as sampling considerations, plot sizes, volume determination and statistical measures of precision.<\/p>\n

“An accurate estimate of timber volume is a necessary step in determining value,” Deegan said. “With the increase in stumpage over the past decade, accurate volume estimation is more important than ever.<\/p>\n

The presentation is primarily targeted to be of interest to foresters who appraise timber. Printed copies of the PowerPoint presentation will be available to attendees.<\/p>\n

Deegan possesses 27 years of experience working as a forester with the MNDNR Division of Forestry and received his education at the University of Minnesota, College of Forestry.<\/p>\n

The talk is part of an on-going series of Bemidji Area Natural Resources Continuing Education Consortium presentations, usually offered on the third Monday of each month. Groups helping organize the natural resources consortium include the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Center for Environmental, Earth and Space Studies; the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources; Norbord Minnesota; the Chippewa National Forest; Beltrami County; the Leech Lake Division of Resource Management; Ainsworth; and the Red Lake Reservation.<\/p>\n
