Beginning March 20, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Department of Music<\/i><\/a> will kick off a music marathon featuring five concerts and recitals in four days.<\/p>\n March 20: Julie Johnson<\/strong> Johnson’s concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Thompson Recital Hall in Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ’s Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex. Admission is free.<\/p>\n March 21: Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Faculty Trio<\/strong> The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Thompson Recital Hall; admission is free.<\/p>\n March 22: Student and Faculty Recitals<\/strong> Eric Olson<\/a>, adjunct instructor in music, will present a violin recital.<\/p>\n Both recitals will be held March 22 at the Thompson Recital Hall. Stein’s recital begins 3 p.m.; Olson’s begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission to both is free.<\/p>\n March 23: Charles Lazarus<\/strong> Tickets for the concert, “A Night in the Tropics,” are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ and NTC students are admitted free with a valid ID.<\/p>\n Lazarus will also give a free clinic March 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Thompson Recital Hall. \nJulie Johnson<\/i><\/a> is a flutist and composer active in the Twin Cities. She will be working with university students and presenting a concert of her own works and arrangements, performed on bass flute and electrified flute. She has recently been heard in many programs at the McPhail Center for the Arts, where she teaches flute, and at the Minnesota Fringe Festival.<\/p>\n
\nBemidji State’s Faculty Trio of pianist Dr. Stephen Carlson<\/a>, associate professor of music; cellist Dr. Patrick Riley, professor emeritus of music; and violin player Melanie Hanson will perform Beethoven’s D Major “Ghost” Trio, and Brahms’ Piano Trio in B Major, Op. 8.<\/p>\n
\nTracy Stein, a music education major from Fergus Falls, will present her junior recital featuring 20th-century works for flute.<\/p>\n
\nCharles Lazarus<\/i><\/a>, a trumpeter with the Minnesota Orchestra<\/i><\/a>, will bring his jazz combo to Bemidji for a 3 p.m. March 23 concert in the Thompson Recital Hall. Lazarus has been touring with his jazz combo as a side project from his work with the orchestra.<\/p>\n
