Over 100 Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ students, alumni, faculty and staff came together to raise money for wetland conservation at Bemidji State Ducks Unlimited’s Waterfowl Hunter’s Party on Oct. 9 at the American Indian Resource Center.
The annual Waterfowl Hunter’s Party is coordinated each fall by the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Ducks Unlimited chapter. Chapter volunteers staffed a number of interactive games and sold raffle tickets for prizes, including hunting gear, guns and Ducks Unlimited merchandise. A pulled-pork BBQ dinner was enjoyed by attendees and volunteers.
Over $8,000 was raised at the event to support Ducks Unlimited’s conservation mission and attendees walked away with thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes including duck and goose decoys, hunting blinds, kayaks and other hunting gear.
“We had an awesome turnout and it was a great way to start off the year,” Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ sophomore and chapter president Thor Nelson, said.
Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Ducks Unlimited
Ducks Unlimited is a national, non-profit conservation organization that creates, restores and protects wetland habitats that benefit waterfowl, other wildlife and people throughout North America. The organization raises money by hosting fundraising events, selling raffle tickets and collecting other donations. Funds are then distributed to conservation projects deemed critical by Ducks Unlimited biologists.
Established in 1989, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Ducks Unlimited chapter is the oldest college chapter in Minnesota. The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ chapter has consistently received national recognition as one of the top fundraising university Ducks Unlimited chapters in the nation, often competing with much larger university chapters across the country. The chapter earned silver, gold and bronze fundraising awards from Ducks Unlimited in 2015, 2017 and 2018, respectively.
The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Ducks Unlimited chapter is currently planning another fundraising event on February 29, 2020 at Bemidji’s Hampton Inn, which will be open to the general public. Further details will be published on the chapter’s Facebook and Instagram pages in the future.
