They are offered to MNSCU students participating in service-related internships that offer little to no pay.<\/p>\n<h2>External Criminal Justice Scholarships<\/h2>\n<h3>Academic Memorial Scholarship<\/h3>\n<p>The Minnesota Association of County Probation Officers strives to promote and attract quality students into considering Corrections as a career.<\/p>\n<p>In preparing a student for professional level practice, MACPO offers a $750 scholarship to be used toward a Corrections-related degree and\/or internship. MACPO, by awarding this scholarship, will do so in the spirit of honoring deceased MACPO members who have made a significant contribution not only to MACPO, but to the corrections field as well.<\/p>\n<p>One $750 scholarship awarded to a student majoring in Corrections, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work or other related fields who will be\/or is involved in an internship. The ability of a peace officer to render effective service responsive to the public&rsquo;s need depends heavily upon job knowledge and skills. The Minnesota Sheriffs&rsquo; Association recognizes the importance of pre-entry training to the accomplishment of these requisites. It also recognizes that some candidates need outside help in meeting the costs of such training.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/netforum.avectra.com\/eweb\/DynamicPage.aspx?Site=msa&amp;WebCode=MSAScholarships#:~:text=The%20Minnesota%20Sheriffs'%20Association%20(MSA,our%20Exhibitor%20Sustaining%20Scholarship%20Members\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Apply on their Website<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Minnesota Association of Women Police<\/h3>\n<p>The Minnesota Association of Women Police has established 2 scholarships in memory of police officers Karen Rice and Melissa Schmidt. Karen Rice, a Mille Lacs County Deputy, died from injuries sustained in a traffic accident while en route to work in 1982. Melissa Schmidt, a Minneapolis Police Officer, was killed in the line of duty while on a disturbance call in 2002.<\/p>\n<p>The scholarship&rsquo;s purpose is to provide financial assistance to qualified women seeking a career in law enforcement. To qualify, the female student must be within twelve (12) months of successfully completing a P.O.S.T. approved law enforcement program at the time of application.
